Color Theory

Yes, color theory sounds a rather bit dry and boring doesn’t it? Well, I found one of a plethora of color tools on the web and made it my own by taking the predominate colors in an image and showing the complimentary and the triad colors of those colors as well as the palette. I’ll be doing a lot of these! It is a perfect way for me to work in the newest class by Jodi Ohl that I’m taking. I’ve always loved Jodi’s classes and Podtastic is no exception. Jodi is known for her brilliant colors and I want to replicate that. Here is an example of some of my playing with color tools and Photoshop.

First Love

Does anyone remember the first time they fell in love? Oh, we had so merry been going about our lives detesting the other sex when “BAM!” you were hit in the head with a sledgehammer. Suddenly the other sex was appealing!! That special cute person that we had a secret crush on, our first love…well, this is how I’ve depicted that crazy, volatile feeling!

Latenight scribbles

No matter if I’m knitting, watching tv, or reading I need to close my night with some type of sketching, either practicing facial features or playing with color. These sketches bring light to new ideas for art pieces and serve to relax me before sleep. Here are a couple I did last night – A quick face and some abstract scribbles…..gotta keep that arm loose, lol!

Announcing…Pantone’s color of the year 2012!!

You’ll be seeing it on the runways, in makeup colors, nail polish, shoes, bags, accessories and jewelry!  This is a color almost universally flattering to all skin tones, is bright and cheery, yet warm and cozy…..and the color is…Tangerine Tango (as Pantone refers to it)! Tango has a sense of hot, eroticness to it doesn’t it? Tangerine has always been one of my favorite colors, it is so versatile! Think of tangerine against your summer tanned skin, a pick me up color paired with black for those winter workdays, or a tangerine sweater with jeans and boots for a more casual look. For spring go all out, why not buy a dress that is either a solid or print tangerine During fall tangerine brings visions of a burning fire, pumpkins, and turning leaves!

You’ll be seeing tangerine in clothing, paint, accessories, home decor, you name it, you’ll find it in tangerine! My year after year summer pedicure is a frosty tangerine polish made by OPI called ‘Bright Lights, Big Color’. A similar drugstore brand is Sally Hanson Diamond Strength in ‘Sunrise, Sunset’. They look so hot against even the slightest of tans.

So come on,  bring some tangerine into your life and brighten the world!

Top 10 Pantone colors for Spring 2011

What is a Pantone color you might ask? Pantone colors are standard sets of colors identified by a number. These numbers are used by printers to ensure that printed colors are to the clients specifications. Fashion designers also use the Pantone scale when determining the seasonal color trends. These trends, of course, extend past fashion, to accessories such as handbags, scarves, and of course – jewelery! As a jewelry designer I excitedly look forward to seeing what colors the clothing designers will be using so that I can create my jewelry line to compliment the current fashions.

I am in love with the Spring 2011 colors! Spring brings some lovely pastel shades such as Lavender and the luscious Silver Peony but also has some really wonderful brights, neutrals and my favorite earth tones – Beeswax, Coral Rose, and Russet. I can see using my copper, which is a personal favorite (and an affordable option which is really gaining popularity!) of mine. I love the Peapod also. And how about Regatta? The name alone evokes a feeling of calm excitement – a race…on the water ; )

I really am enjoying Honeysuckle as well, even though the color is not what I envision when I think of honeysuckle, lol! It is very, very close to the color I’ve used in my first spring piece! The ‘Honeysuckle’ pearl and Swarovski crystal bracelet that I made last week would be a wonderful addition to your spring wardrobe, and at a ‘fashionable’ price of only $15 a bargain as well!

Keep your eyes on Adornments by Malinda J. Over the weekend I will be uploading several items that would make perfect Valentines gifts for under $20!

Have a great weekend and I hope ‘your’ team wins the Superbowl! ; ) I, personally, will be happy whoever wins, 2 teams from the midwest, well that just makes me happy!
