One of my first paintings for the new year. It’s an abstract (I guess you would have guessed that, lol!) I named it after my shiapoo Bonzo. Bonzo Blows a Bubble.
If you are an artist, you know that feeling when you complete a piece and sit back and your heart sings! This is one of the pieces that did that for me. It’s titled simply ‘Circles’ and to me it embodies life, the cyclic nature of life, what ends begins again and what begins must always end. What do I love about this painting? I love the colors, I love the patterns in the 3 major circles, I love the texture and decayed looking color around the edges of the painting.
There is a good chance, I’m the only one who WILL like this painting, and that is OK too because the joy I feel when I look at it is worth all the time and effort that went into this piece.
Speaking of this piece, I created it in an altered book. That’s an entirely different topic that I’ll have to write about one day. I love altered books and you can do them as simple as just gessoing the pages and working on them or as elaborate as creating cutouts inside so that not only is the book itself three dimensional, but your work insidide the book is three dimensional as well! As I said, another time 🙂 For now, here is ‘Circles’.
I’m so lucky to have a supportive family. They don’t just ‘say’ they are fans of my work, they actually purchase my work!(Of course I give them a family discount, it’s only fair!) When my sister in law contacted me this week saying she and my brother had redone their bedroom in yellow, gray and white, and would I do an abstract for them, I was more than excited! These are some of my favorite combined colors, why had I never thought of painting them together! I was chomping at the bit to get behind the easel.
I actually completed two pieces for them, I did a smaller piece with the left over paint. Here is what I came up with.
My latest abstract is entitled Yonder. I’m delighted the texture shows so strongly in the photograph! I just ordered a new camera so I can get better shots for reproductions. I purchased an Olympus 16 megapixel with 10x zoom and it’s red!! I love it! Anyway, here is my first art picture taken from the new camera.
Does anyone remember the first time they fell in love? Oh, we had so merry been going about our lives detesting the other sex when “BAM!” you were hit in the head with a sledgehammer. Suddenly the other sex was appealing!! That special cute person that we had a secret crush on, our first love…well, this is how I’ve depicted that crazy, volatile feeling!
I admit, I just love this piece. Entitled “I used to be and Indian Princess” it depicts a woman enmeshed with an Indian nature motif. She dreams about her past life and when she wakes up she knows it’s all true!
